Curriculum
At the Boys Junior School we aim to provide a broad, yet balanced curriculum that inspires and challenges each individual. Whilst we do follow the National Curriculum, the school is able to adapt it to the boys individual learning needs in stimulating yet friendly surroundings.
Most subjects are taught by the full time class teacher with specialist staff providing French, music and some aspects of the physical education curriculum. For certain subjects, such as art, design and technology and ICT, we have modern specialist rooms, equipped to meet the needs of these subjects.
All the children get homework, between about 20 and 40 minutes per night depending on the age of the child. They are also expected to read every night and learn spellings and tables as part of their homework.
We see parents as being a vital part of the partnership in the education of our boys. Whilst we have formal written reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms and a parents evening in the Spring, parents are encouraged to meet with class teachers throughout the year to monitor pupils' progress and achievements as they arise.
