Curriculum

Our girls enjoy a broad and balanced education and we follow the National Curriculum in all subject areas. The majority of subjects are taught by the class teacher but we have specialist staff to teach PE, music and French.

Staff use a wide range of teaching methods to give the children the best learning opportunities. Work in many subjects is enhanced by related activities outside of the normal curriculum. Visitors are invited in to school to give their expertise when appropriate and a variety of trips are used to bring subjects to life.

All the children get homework, between about 20 and 40 minutes per night depending on the age of the child. They are also expected to read every night and learn spellings and tables as part of their homework.

The girls sit examinations twice a year, in January and in May. They are tested on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. Results are reported to parents and there is the opportunity to discuss these at Parents Evenings. Formal reports are written twice a year and give feedback on progress in the main curriculum subjects.
