Infant School at Billinge House
Co-educational for boys and girls aged 3 - 7
Welcome from the Head
Children from aged three are welcomed into the Infant School at Billinge House. There the excitement of learning and growing really begins!
By the time our three year olds arrive at the Infant School they are well prepared for life in their new environment. Many previous trips down in the Turtle Buggy mean that there are plenty of familiar, friendly faces.
Mastering independent skills becomes a focus in Pre-School and the children soon become confident learners. Please click here for an in depth view of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 Curriculum areas that we cover. Children grow with us creatively and physically, and emphasis is put on the emotional side of their development so that they learn the skills for a successful life: teamwork, sharing, listening, confident public speaking and excellent manners. Discipline is kindly yet firmly administered so that the children recognise boundaries yet have the confidence to try new things. This is facilitated by the range of clubs and subjects we offer at the Infant School; from ICT to Gardening, Martial Arts to Football, French to Ballet, we work hard to bring out the interests and talents of each child. By Year 2 all of the children take part in swimming lessons in the Senior Schools’ pool: we are proud to be able to offer a truly diverse curriculum.
Teaching is delivered not only in the classroom, but also in the outdoors. On arrival at Billinge House you would be quite likely to see the children hopping on the large, multicoloured Mathematics Square painted on the playground. The pupils designed it themselves and love to play on it. Learning how numbers work has never been so much fun! We are fortunate to be in a spacious, green environment with lots of opportunity to go on treasure hunts and make dens; even in wet weather we have canopied areas for external play. The children are excited to go further afield, and as they progress through the School the trips support their learning and instil confidence.
The Infant years for children are vital in terms of developing both attitude and aptitude. When girls and boys leave us to carry onto the next stage of their Westholme journey they are competent readers and communicators, in the written and spoken word. Perhaps even more than that, they are happy and self-assured individuals, entirely ready to make the transition to the Junior Schools.
Come and see us and find out for yourself!
