Westholme Infant School Admissions Policy (for entry at the age of 3+ and 4+)
Westholme School is open to children of all denominations and faiths. Children may enter the pre school class in the academic year that they turn four (i.e three years of age before the 1st of September) and into the reception class in the academic year that they turn five, (i.e. four years of age before the 1st of September).
The Governing Body’s admissions policy for the school is that all children will be registered on a waiting list and then be given the opportunity to be selected for entry by interview.
Children for the pre school intake will be interviewed in February or March with a decision notified the first week in April.
Children for the reception intake will be interviewed in January and notified of the outcome within two weeks.
The interviews, which will last about an hour, will enable the school to implement a sympathetic, sensitive and structured admission procedure and all parents will be given a definite decision about a place for their child at a particular time. It will relieve the ongoing uncertainty of the waiting list situation.
This procedure will also ensure that children accepted into the school are suitable for the academic environment we offer and will all progress happily and quickly together.
All children, who are accepted, will be invited into the pre school and reception classes, along with their parents, before term starts, to meet their teachers and learn about the routine and the aims and ethos of the school.
Pre school parents will be encouraged to leave their children for a full day from 9.00 am to 3.15pm. Half days may be arranged with the Headmistress if children are not ready to stay for the full day. (Morning sessions are 8.55am – 1pm ).
Early morning supervision is provided, free of charge, from 8.00am to 8.30am by a member of staff. At 8.30am the children proceed to their appropriate classrooms.
After School Care is available by separate arrangement.
