Facilities

Westholme Nursery is an architect designed suite of themed rooms and facilities all interconnecting and on the same level. Our outdoor classroom also allows further independent learning opportunities which are both safe and secure with a low impact wet pour surface.

Each room is colour themed and designed to facilitate access to the Early Years Foundation curriculum.

Conservatory

Our conservatory allows the children to play happily in a bright and airy space. It recognises and satisfies a child's need to discover and explore through play. Our activities and resources within this learning environment introduce a child's senses to a vast array of material such as sand, water and paint to name but a few. These manipulation skills and mark making are importance steps in their learning.

Green Room

Our green room is a spacious room, providing many opportunities to learn within the Early Years environment. At nursery, children are full of energy and thrive on opportunities for active play. The green room helps to develop their physical and problem solving skills through an impressive range of resources that are both challenging and safe. This includes a construction area with soft blocks to climb, balancing blocks and different construction activities to build and count.  In addition to this, there is also our ICT area where you may find your child carrying out simple computer programs on the interactive whiteboard or taking photos using our digital camera.

Blue Room

In the blue room we help support each childs ideas, by allowing them to engage in purposeful play to provide experiences that promote learning and development. This room provides extensive small world resources and areas for role play, enabling the children to stir their growing curiosity, stimulate their creativity and capture their imagination. The music area develops a childs concept of basic rhythm on a tambourine to the potential of a gifted talent.

Quiet Room

Our conservatory, green and blue learning environments all support a childs active play while our quiet reflective sleep area provides a cosy peaceful area to take part in calmer activities. We spend time here looking at picture books, listening to stories and singing nursery rhymes.  There is also a sensory area which allows children to explore senses in the nature area as well as experiencing different textures first hand. The children know that there is a place they can go any time if they need to take a rest. Its hard work playing and having fun all day!!

Outdoor

At Westholme, the children benefit from a safe and secure classroom outside, where there is a wealth of learning opportunities. They have a role play house, cosy den, mark making area and plant area where they can pot plants and vegetables. Recently the children have planted sunflowers and we look forward to watering them, watching them grow and of course measuring them. In fact most of them will probably grow taller than the children!

In addition there is also a nappy and personal hygiene room along with pupils' toilets. All the rooms are bright and cheerful reflecting the exciting, changing and nurturing aspects of the pupils' care.
