Westholme offers a broad curriculum to ensure that all our pupils are inspired in some area of interest. In Years 7-9, Westholme offers an enriched National Curriculum. Science is particularly strong and Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught separately in six purpose built laboratories. The Humanities are also taught in separate subjects and offer exciting activities both in and out of the classroom.
A wide choice of languages is on offer including German, Spanish and French (as well as Latin), whilst all girls in years 7-9 learn Mandarin, Art, Design Technology, Music, Food and Textiles as well as Information Technology, which are all taught by specialised teachers in purpose built rooms.
Westholme always excels in sports and a wide variety of sports are offfered to all pupils both in lesson time and as extra-curricular activities.
We are fortunate in having small classes to ensure that all the girls gain the maximum help and attention. In core subjects, where setting occurs, the groups can be even smaller.
At GCSE the emphasis is upon choice and flexibility. Over twenty subjects are offered and results have been consistently excellent. Good teaching methods are combined with a well-structured pastoral care system to provide the basis for effective learning. The progress of each girl is carefully monitored by both her Form and her Year Tutor throughout her time at Westholme and the school believes in a close partnership with parents. At all stages in their school career, girls are encouraged to be busy and to broaden the scope of their interests. They may become involved in music, sport and drama as well as many other activities and clubs ranging from archery to public speaking and debating.
