Extra Curricular Activities

We have a very strong tradition of extra-curricular activities here at Westholme.  Sports teams are run for all year groups in the following sports:

  • Athletics
  • Swimming
  • Football
  • Tennis
  • Badminton
  • Fell Running
  • Sailing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Hockey
  • Cricket
  • Golf. (Pupils who play out of school are entered in Lancashire Schools Golf Events).

All teams are selected from pupils who attend practices and all boys are welcome to attend. Practices are held at lunchtimes and after school when the fixture list permits.  Most sports fixtures are held after school, but some may be held on Saturday mornings.

The students regularly compete in all the different sports with schools both locally and throughout the North West. Westholme often competes in County and National Schools Competitions in a variety of sports, and has often achieved success at County, Regional and National finals.

In addition, there is a lunchtime Running and Power Walking Club which caters for all abilities and is non-competitive. Plus, there is an improvers' swimming session held weekly for the weaker swimmers in school.

Teams

Teams will be chosen for Football, Swimming, Cricket, Rugby, Cross Country and Athletics.
