Looking After Your Child
Here at Westholme, we take the welfare of our pupils very seriously. We believe that if a child is happy and secure they will learn better and develop into a rounded and well-balanced young adult.
In the Senior School, each girl belongs to a form and is looked after by their form teacher. Each year group has a Head of Year who is in charge of them and has a good overview of how they are doing. The Heads of Year have regular meetings with the form teachers, liaise with academic staff and profile the girls individually so that they have a very clear picture of how they are progressing. They stay with the year group in Years seven, eight and nine. Pupils have a new Head of Year for Years ten and eleven who helps them through option choices and the all-important GCSE stage of their school career.
In the Sixth form they are looked after by form tutors as well as the Head of Sixth Form and her Deputy. They provide support and advice on A levels and with the assistance of our Careers Advisor, help them to choose a career path.
We also give individual guidance on a variety of courses and university choices at this crucial time. We communicate regularly with parents and encourage this dialogue between us to deal with any worries that might occur before they escalate. The girls like the close links they have as a form and as a year group, with competitions and events encouraging a feeling of community and belonging.
The School Nurse
The school has a fully qualified Nurse on site in the Senior School at all times and she is available to talk to the pupils or deal with any emergencies as necessary, in the privacy of the Medical Room.
