ICT

ICT is used in all subjects but it is also taught as a discrete subject. In Year 7 & 8 the pupils have one hour each week for half the year. Year 9 have one hour each week, whilst all Year 10 & 11 (GCSE) have two hours each week. ICT is also available as an AS and A level, with girls studying the subject for five hours each week.

All lessons are different, but as far as possible we try to get pupils to use IT as a way of solving problems. This means that the lessons are very hands-on and practical. Typical examples include; Using a publishing package to make pop-up cards, a spreadsheet to plan a fund raising event and to predict how much money will be made, a database to run a school sports day or even using graphics packages to make animated cartoon stories.

Everyone in the school is entered for GCSE ICT and all pupils usually get a grade C or above and about 80% usually get an A or an A*. We have also recently won an award from the Best Schools Guide for best independent girls school for AS level ICT.

We have three large ICT rooms with interactive whiteboards, colour printers and enough computers for everyone. There are also computers in the school library. All computers are connected to the school network and pupils get their own username and password. The pupils can use computers outside lessons and rooms are usually available at break, lunch time and after school. All computers are on the network so pupils can go on the internet. (We keep it as safe as possible by having filtering which stops pupils visiting sites that are not suitable).
