Mathematics

In year 7, Mathematics is taught to pupils in form groups.

In year 8, forms are combined to make 2 sets according to ability. All sets cover the same topics but the amount of depth covered depends upon the ability of the group.

In year 9 there are three sets to allow for smaller class sizes to ensure that all pupils achieve their potential.

In Mathematics at GCSE we follow the AQA modular examination (http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gcse/newmath_b). The first module is taken in March of year 10. This module covers statistics and probability. The second module, number and algebra, is taken at the end of year 10. The final module, number, algebra, shape and space, is taken at the end of year 11.

A Level Mathematics : In the Sixth Form students can study a wide range of Mathematics suited to their option choices and future studies. All students take Edexcel modular examinations in January and June. (http://www.edexcel.org.uk/quals/gce/maths) Currently we offer Pure Mathematics and Statistics, Pure Mathematics and Mechanics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics & Decision, Pure Mathematics and Further Mathematics , Pure Mathematics and AS Further Mathematics. AS Mathematics over 2 years.
