Textiles
Students have the opportunity to study Textiles and work with a variety of textile materials to understand the working characteristics and properties of textiles which influence the choice of materials in design situations. We have an excellent textile suite with computers, sewing machines, computer controlled embroidery machines and a printing press.
In Textiles, throughout KS3, various design and make projects are undertaken to improve the students’ creative and practical skills.
Year 7
In Year 7, students complete the pencil case project, with each section of the pencil being individually decorated using Textile Techniques to improve the pupils’ practical skills.

Year 8
In Year 8, pupils design and make a scatter cushion using appliqué and CAD skills as the decorative technique.

Year 9
In Year 9, pupils learn dress-making skills and design and make either a night dress or a pajama top, decorated using a textile technique.

KS4 and KS5
At KS4 and KS5 the pupils plan independent projects, which allow them to specialize in areas of individual interest. They also have the opportunity to develop both their design and practical skills and to focus on their particular strengths.
