The Student Council
The Student Council aims to respond to the students needs and ensure they have a voice in how the school develops. It meets regularly to discuss issues relevant to the students and to have an input into new initiatives in school. For example, this year the Council is currently discussing several initiatives such as reviewing the anti-bullying policy so that everyone has had an input in its content, discussing their contribution to the school website so that it reflects their views and perceptions of school and looking at ways of improving our school environment.

We believe that an effective School Council can improve student-teacher relationships, increase involvement in school, develop decision making skills and raise students feelings of self-worth and respect. We hope it will empower students by giving them a meaningful voice in life at their school.
The Student Council has representatives for each year group (Years 7 - 11). The Sixth form has its own Council.
Student Council Report
Over the last eighteen months we have been involved in researching information for the Travel Plan and looking at lunches. We now have trays at lunchtime to ease clearning up and we are trying to get the queues shorter. We are also liaising with the catering manager about new ideas.
We have also discussed the issues of lockers and where we could add new ones. The vending machine prices have also been discussed and this has been passed on to the Bursar.
The Code of Conduct and Rights and Responsibilities sheets were discussed and next term a group of girls will help to design a new user-friendly lay-out which will be put in next year's homework diaries.
We have also now got a steering committee which is working towards becoming a Fair-trade school by delivering assemblies to the whole school and selling Fairtrade products too.
