Westholme Crest

Curriculum

At the Junior School we aim to provide a broad and yet balanced curriculum that inspires and challenges our pupils. Whilst we do follow the National Curriculum, the school aims to adapt it to the children’s individual learning needs in stimulating, yet friendly surroundings.

The majority of subjects are taught by the class teacher but we have specialist staff to teach PE, music and French.

Staff use a wide range of teaching methods to give the children the best learning opportunities. Work in many subjects is enhanced by related activities outside of the normal curriculum. Visitors are invited in to school to give their expertise when appropriate and a variety of trips are used to bring subjects to life.

All the children get homework, between about 20 and 40 minutes per night depending on the age of the child. They are also expected to read every night and learn spellings and tables as part of their homework.
