AJIS Athletics

Mr Barnett provides the review of yesterday's AJIS Athletics event, below:

The condititions were perfect for athletics; sunny yet with a deliciously cooling breeze. Team Westholme were determined to make the most of it!

It was to be a tough day of heats and finals, so consistently excellent performance was required. The girls started off with Field events and boys on the Track with the teams changing after lunch.

Natasha won her hurdles heat in a thrilling race and progressed to the final, up against some stiff competition. She ran a great race and finished 5th overall.

George made it through to the final of the 80m sprint. Watching him on the start line, he could give Usain Bolt a lesson in a relaxed demeanor! However, once the starting pistol went he was all business and he took off down the straight like a scalded hyena! A fantastic dip over the line saw him secure 2nd place and the Silver medal - marvellous!

Jonathan was involved in the 600m, which was a straight final. He ran a very composed race and had enough left in the tank for a searing sprint down the home straight to finish in 2nd and secure us another Silver medal.

Whilst these three students were the only ones to progress through to the finals, in no way did it lessen the efforts and contributions of the rest of the team. Every single Team Westholme competitor showcased the very best of our school ethos, they tried their hardest, smiled and enjoyed themselves throughout.

I think everyone, including the staff, would like to thank George's Granny, who very kindly bought us all an ice cream, including the staff! Such a generous gesture, enjoyed and appreciated by us all. Thank you!!
