AJIS Hockey

Report: Mrs Ingham

On a wet and miserable Monday at Preston’s UCLAN Sports arena, the Year 6 hockey team arrived at the tournament raring to go.

Our first match against Kirkham B team saw Westholme dominate and some superb attacking play between Poppy Chester, Isabelle Haslam and Evie Mitchell put Westholme in a great position with a 3-0 hat trick from Evie.

The second game against Manchester again saw Westholme dominate however the goals didn’t come and with only a short tournament game, the match finished 0-0.

Our final game in the section was against Kings School Chester and everyone had played by this stage of the tournament. Some more attacking play from Westholme again saw us dominate with shot after shot on goal. Kings had an excellent goalie who made several saves to keep the score at 0-0 until they had one break through the middle and managed to score from it soon after the hooter sounded so unfortunately, we didn’t have time to respond. These results meant that, despite our brilliant run of play, we finished in a disappointing third place in the section.

We went into the playoff matches against Stockport Grammar and Rossall school. The score was 0-0 against Stockport and 1-0 against Rossall with the girls winning their third playoff tournament.

Well done to our team who played some very good hockey and were unlucky on the day to not score more of their shots on goal.
