On Thursday evening 5 October, we were delighted to open our doors as we held our annual Open Evening: it was great to see so many faces, both new and old, enjoying an evening of discovery, learning and fun!
After registering in the Theatre Foyer, families were escorted round the building by current Year 7, 8 and 9 and INSPIRED Sixth Form students, who acted as tour guides for the evening. They were greeted by members of staff and current students in each area who were more than happy to talk about their subjects and the types of topics and activities that they could expect to study at Seniors. Not even the rain could dampen our evening, as sports sessions such as football, hockey and swimming were held outside on the pitches, astroturf and pool respectively.
Every area of the school was on show, with every subject and faculty being celebrated, showcasing the very best of our academic provision and specialist facilities. Visitors were delighted with West End worthy performances of Matilda in the Croston Theatre, to a Modern Foreign Languages circus themed bonanza in our INSPIRED Sixth Form centre. Families were also invited to take part in a whole host of discursive and problem solving activities in Geography, EPR and History, in addition to having the chance to carry out scientific experiments such as chemical reactions and dissections in our laboratories. All of our visitors really did get a taste of the whole Westholme experience and what it is like to live and breathe Westholme life.
Over in the LRC, members of the INSPIRED Sixth Form and other Senior students held the ‘Welcome to Westholme experience’ where they delighted visitors with their take on what life at Westholme really encompasses. Upstairs, Maths, Business & Economics, Sociology & Criminology and Psychology also had plenty of things on offer to capture the imagination. The Creative Arts held showcases of their very best student work and featured students working on projects for people to see; the ‘Kitchen Grime Scene‘ investigation was also a highlight over in Food Tech!
The night was simply a fantastic celebration of all things Westholme. There was palpable excitement across the site from staff, students and of course from our visiting families: we cannot wait to welcome everyone back over the next few weeks as students embark on their own Westholme journey.
