The annual Prizegiving Ceremony for Senior School and Sixth Form was held at King George’s Hall last night.
The proceedings began with a welcome from Chairman of Governors, Brian Marsden. He spoke about the many highlights from our previous academic year, not only for the students, but for the academic and support staff teams too. He also mentioned that our most recent Inspection Report in May, was the best one for the school yet.
Principal, Mrs Horner, delivered her report which focussed on the school’s Growth Mindset topic and how important it is for our students.
Our pleasing set of examination results this summer at both GCSE and A Level were also worthy of high praise and Mrs Horner commended all students for their hard work.
As always, the evening featured a number of fantastic musical performances. Music Captain, Josh Dodding delivered a superb rendition from the musical, ‘Love Never Dies’ of ‘Till I Hear You Sing’. The School Swing Band were also in action, playing ‘In The Mood’ and the School Choir rounded off the musical contributions towards the end of the ceremony with a wonderful medley of songs by Queen.
An entertaining speech was delivered by our Heads of School, Saorise O’Neill, Dominic Naylor and Ambreen Chowdury. It centred on a day in the life at Westholme – giving a real insight for parents (and staff!) about a true day in the life of a Westholme student. The speech provided the audience many laughs throughout.
The prizes were then distributed to their worthy winners by our honourable guest and Prize Presenter, Superintendent Stasia Osiowy. After the presentations, Stasia delivered an inspiring speech to our students explaining what values she focused on throughout her life and career, stating that these important values were instilled in her as a child by her grandparents and helped her to shape her career and indeed life, into what it is today.
The evening concluded with closing remarks from our Chairman of Governors before the traditional singing of the school hymn.
Congratulations to all of our prize winners. Thank you to Superintendant Osiowy for taking the time out of her busy schedule to be our Prize Presenter.
