Junior musicians compete in the Blackburn Music Festival

On Friday 13th June, the Year 6 recorder group and Junior School String Quartet entered Blackburn Music Festival’s ensemble classes.

The competition was held at St Peter’s Church Salesbury, and schools from the surrounding areas took part.

The Westholme Junior String Quartet were awarded joint 3rd place for their performance of ‘The Ashgrove’ & ‘Polka’, in the instrumental ensemble class, whilst the Recorder Group were awarded joint 2nd place for their performance of ‘Kalinka’ and ‘Swing Sandwich’ in the recorder ensemble class.

The adjudicator remarked on the very high standard of the performances and congratulated every performer for their contribution and musical achievements.

This was the first time that any group from Westholme Junior School had entered the festival, but it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience that all our pupils should be proud of.

Well done to all involved!
