Blackburn with Darwen Schools Working Together Conference

On Friday 1st March 2019, 8 students including sixth former Saoirse O’Neill, attended the first ever Blackburn with Darwen Schools Working Together Conference.

This was an opportunity to thank pupils for their involvement in the continuation of the Peace Charter, with Saoirse giving an excellent motivational summary of the earlier work which she had completed on the charter.  The day was varied and included a number of workshops and a speech from Ahmad Nawaz, a survivor of a Taliban attack.

The students were particularly moved by this as they found the testimony of a very young man inspiring as he talked to them about avoiding hatred and conflict whilst showing compassion in the face of adversity.  The students especially enjoyed the workshop format of the event as it enabled them to meet and interact with many young people from across the borough.

Mrs Moore and Dr Riley would like to thank all the students for their involvement and for being excellent ambassadors for Westholme School.
