Catteral Shield

Amazing performances from our Junior runners

On Wednesday 13th January, students in Years 5 and 6 took part in the annual Catteral Shield Cross Country event at Giggleswick School. On what was an extremely challenging course – even more so given the terrible weather we have experienced throughout the winter holidays – all students competed superbly and did their teammates and Westholme proud.

It proved to be a very successful race for Hollie Cubbon who won the U11’s girls’ event, completing the 2.3km course in a superb time of 9 minutes 15 seconds. Kate Deegan, Lola Baron, Amy Dixon and Ayesha Sykes helped the girls to claim fourth place from seventeen other schools in the competition.

The U11 junior boys’ team also enjoyed a successful time at Giggleswick with Edward Lee finishing in tenth place in 9 minutes and 15 seconds. Finlay Testa, Oliver Oakley, Adam Davenport and Toby Haresceugh helped the boys to finish in an overall tenth place from seventeen teams.

Well done to all of our students who competed and performed extremely well on a wet and windy but thoroughly enjoyable day.
