Year 7 spelling competition raises money for Guide Dogs
All Year 7 pupils were generously sponsored by family and friends for learning sixty difficult words and taking part in a spelling competition recently. The five winners of the competition will be entered into the Times Spelling Bee which is to be held in May. Congratulations to Fallon Hargreaves, Elspeth Russell-Shuker, Emily Burke, Daisy Hancox and Freya Timcke.
A staggering £1,010 was raised for Guide Dogs for the Blind and Westholme’s former head of Religious Studies and guide dog puppy trainer, Mrs Anne Pollitt, came into school today to receive the cheque. Mrs Pollitt said that she had been moved to tears when she heard how much the girls had raised for the charity which is so close to her heart. She presented all Year 7 pupils with a bookmark and the five competition winners were given a Guide Dogs for the Blind toy labrador puppy memento.
