Students compete in the North West Cross Country Championships
Students from both Westholme Junior and Senior School competed in the North West Cross Country Championship held at Stonyhurst College. In typical wet and windy cross country weather the students walked the course to get a feel of how difficult it may be. The U11 girls race started the day with over 100 runners taking to the field. The girls ran their hearts out and finished in 10th place out of 16 schools.
After cheering on the U11 girls it was straight to the start line for the Westholme U11 boys. With over 120 boys entering the junior race the competition was tough. However, Westholme endured the difficult conditions and embraced the challenge.
Determined, enthusiastic and excited it was time for the U13 boys to race. Whilst competing individually, the boys were fully aware that team work could help them all prevail and reach their potential. This saw Thomas Perricone, of 7T, and Dominic Naylor, of 8T, run the majority of the race together and finish a fantastic 8th and 9th place respectively. Well done to all the boys in the race, this great team effort resulted in the U13 boys finishing in 3rd place overall, a superb result in such a competitive race.
The under 13 girls were equally impressive with a smaller field taking part but just as tough a race. There were 5 girls teams competing and 37 runners.
Well done to all the students for a terrific effort.
