Down to the river

Year 5 spend a day in the Yorkshire Dales

The girls in Year 5 headed for Clapham in the Yorkshire Dales where they collected data about the width, speed and depth of the river.

They were expertly guided by Gill Gasson from the Malham Tarn Field centre as they measured, timed and paddled their way through the activities, which also included investigating the invertebrates in the water.

They enjoyed visiting Ingleborough Cave to learn about the rock formations there and briefly experienced the cold, dark conditions faced by the Victorian explorers who first discovered it!
