EU Language Competition

Sixth Form students compete in translation competition

On Thursday 28th November four pupils studying A2 Spanish took part in an EU-wide translation competition.

The competition, designed to promote language learning and translation in the European Union has been going since 2007 and saw 3000 pupils aged 17 and 18 across Europe translating a text, mostly from a language they are learning into their mother tongue.

The theme for the texts this year was ‘the European Year of Citizens’. Both the comprehension and composition skills of our Westholme representatives were tested and we will have to wait until the new year to hear if they were successful. With the prize for the winning translation being an expenses-paid trip to Brussels for an award ceremony, we cannot wait to hear the results!
