Fun and Games with all the Family!
Professor Richard Taylor, School Governor and winner of the Tennis Tournament smiled wryly as he arrived in the sunshine. It was nice weather for your Fun Day last year; I’m going to consult you before I book any events which require the sun!
We were indeed blessed by the weather as Blackburn experienced the start of a heat-wave and the rain held off. Parents, current pupils, future pupils and old girls all came together in the spirit of fun and adventure to take on bowling, tennis and the ever-popular Mini Olympics, ably run by Miss Entwistle and the CSLA girls in the Sixth Form. The catering was superb, with delicious cakes and sandwiches being washed down by a cooling Pimms or two.
There was something for everyone and all abilities were catered for, from the little boy who came with his own crown green bowling set to the competitive Dads determined to just fit under that limbo line and just pick up a few more peas. You know who you are!
The day was made extra special as it marked the start of celebrations for Mrs Whittaker who retires from the PE Department this year. Many former pupils came to pass on their best wishes and thank her for the memories. After Mrs Catlow presented her with a signed watercolour of the Astroturf Pitch (which, as Mrs Whittaker pointed out, she had only waited 38 years for!), Mrs Whittaker declared a game of rounders to commence and scores of people gathered to join in. It really was a fitting ending to a lovely Westholme day, where everyone was in good spirits and could really make the most of our marvellous sporting facilities.
