Over the past few weeks, our School caterers, Thomas Franks have been working tirelessly to bring to life a community kitchen project.
Their aim is to provide meals to those in need during the COVID-19 crisis, including members of the NHS who are on the frontline and vulnerable people of all ages.
Thomas Franks and Westholme School have started working with Blackburn Council to provide hot meals for the most vulnerable in the region. Throughout the week, Thomas Franks will be delivering over 750 hot meals to Blackburn Youth Zone and to the charity Newground in partnership with Together Housing.
We will provide 160 meals twice a week to The Blackburn Youth Zone. For this initiative, Thomas Franks received a generous donation from the Together Housing charity, to extend their reach. This donation allows them to produce an extra 100 meals every day for the residents of the Together Housing projects, as well as the ‘hidden heroes’, who work within the carers network in Blackburn. Thomas Franks will be using their distribution network to make sure that the meals are allocated to people who are most in need.
Fresh fruit hampers will also be provided to those working in the North West Ambulance station.
Everyone at Westholme is delighted to be involved in this fantastic initiative – we have opened our catering facilities enabling members of the Thomas Franks’ team to prepare, cook and package these meals.
Founder, Frank Bothwell, commented ‘I am so grateful to Westholme for opening their catering facilities and for their ongoing support throughout this uncertain time. We will continue to provide our services as long as they are needed, with the generous contributions from our donors.’
Commercial Director, Viv Davenport, stated ‘This is a wonderful, kind initiative which we are delighted to be part of. It’s more important than ever right now to serve our communities – by working together we can achieve very special things. Blackburn with Darwen Council has been tremendous in connecting us to those most in need and we can’t wait to make a real difference.’
Thomas Franks expressed their thanks to everyone at Westholme School and Together Housing and their volunteers, stating that this initiative would not have been possible without them. Special thanks also go to the generous donors too – their generosity has been vital to launch this fantastic project.
Our Catering Manager, James Pate, has already been into school today to start preparing the meals. Look out for our social media posts about this project!
