Fell Running Champions

English Schools’ Fell Running Championships 2011

On Sunday 16th October 2011, twenty two Westholme runners travelled to Cockermouth to compete in the English Fell Running Championships. With schools represented from all over England, the girls tackled a longer course than in previous years, running through very muddy fields and over a hill (or two depending on the age group).

All the Westholme competitors tackled the course very well and are to be congratulated on their fantastic achievements.

The Year 7 team won the Girls Team prize with outstanding performances from Lucy Fielden (4th), Alexa McTiffin (6th) and Baylie Thompson (7th). It needs to be stated here that for most of the race Alexa ran with only one shoe, the other was lost in the mud!

The Year 8/9 team came third overall, with excellent performances from Maddie Ainsworth (7th), Eleanor Brooks (13th) and Molly Nelligan (22nd).

The Year 10/11 team won the Girls Team prize with superb runs from Katie Buckley (4th), Megan Davis (11th) and Hannah Dobrashian (21st).

The Year 12/13 team won the Girls Team prize with outstanding performances from Beckie Taylor who came in 1st and received a gold medal. Emma Watts finished in 13th place and Elizabeth Stebbings was 19th.

In the Best Overall School Award (a prize which is presented to the best school including Boys, Girls or Co-educational) Westholme School was the overall champion by a considerable margin. As team captain, Beckie Taylor received the Best Overall School trophy.
