A Musical Experience for Year 6
Year 6 visited Bolton Music Service and took part in a Gamelan workshop.
This traditional Indonesian music uses cyclic patterns on a range of instruments including Sarons, Kempuls, Kennings and Gongs. The children were taught to respect the instruments, and to show respect they took off their shoes before sitting on cushions in front of the instruments.
They were given a brief background to the instruments of a Gamelan orchestra and demonstrated how each should be played.
The pupils then enjoyed creating cyclic patterns to create a lovely authentic performance.
