Gold CREST Awards for Sixth Form Scientists

Westholme science students participate in Nuffield Bursary Scheme

Sixth formers, Rebecca Stanford and Deborah Milligan participated in the Nuffield Bursary Scheme, which allows students to carry out scientific research with mentors from universities or industry for at least four weeks.  The students can then write up their projects to obtain awards from the British Science Association.

Rebecca and Deborah received Gold CREST Awards at a presentation ceremony in Manchester.  Gold is the highest level of CREST award and involves over 100 hours of project work.  Deborah’s project looked at The Possible Correlation between Hip Fractures and Osteomalacia and Rebecca looked into the Molecular Cloning of Sirtuin Genes by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).   Congratulations to both students.
