Talk by David Starkey

Visit to the Preston Guild Hall Charter Theatre

On Monday evening, the A level History students and departmental teachers, along with Mrs Horner went to the Charter Theatre in Preston to hear the renowned, and often controversial Tudor historian, David Starkey speak. His lecture was brilliant and much enjoyed by all who attended. They had expected a lively and thought-provoking speech and were not disappointed as he made links between Henry VIII’s Break with Rome and the current situation with Brexit. His witty comparisons between modern day politicians and their Tudor counterparts really brought the subject to life and he was even drawn into comments about Donald Trump following questions from the audience.

On a more serious note, the students really benefitted from hearing his views about the Reformation and Henry VIII’s foreign policy which linked directly to their A level syllabus. An informative and good time was had by all!
