We are delighted once again to be working with our close partner Thomas Franks this August, by partaking in a government initiative named the Holiday Action Fund (HAF).
As part of the initiative, Westholme and Thomas Franks have also teamed up with Blackburn and Darwen Council and Spring North, a charity based in Blackburn that aims to collectively tackle issues in our local community.
The scheme enables school children to receive healthy and nutritious meals and organised activities through investment provided by the Government this summer.
Of the initiative, Schools Minister Lord Agnew said:
“We are giving thousands more children in disadvantaged areas the opportunity to attend a breakfast club, which will help boost attendance, behaviour and attainment, helping to achieve their best in school.”
Along with Thomas Franks we are helping to supply 15,000 meals to Newground Together, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, IMO Charity and Blackburn Youth Zone in conjunction with the Government funds provided.
So far, Spring North have also managed to organise activities and food for almost 2000 children within the local area each day throughout August.
The initiative will provide crucial necessities for families in the area and allow children to reconnect with their friends in a safe environment whilst enjoying a range of activities and a hot meal.
Thomas Franks have continued their ongoing fantastic work within the local community, having introduced the Feeding Communities initiative throughout lockdown in May.
Catering Manager, James Pate says:
“When we started helping feed the community in May we had no idea that we would be getting involved in such an important government initiative.
These meals ensure that children are still getting their nutritious and healthy free school meal throughout the summer holidays and we are happy to be providing 900 meals every day.
I am also thankful for having such wonderful partners at every step of the process.”
We are thrilled to be part of the programme that helps children to lead healthier, more active and happier lifestyles throughout these difficult times.
