A fascinating insight
Guests travelled from as far as Sheffield to enjoy a fascinating talk from BBC News Correspondent, Jon Sopel. The event was held in partnership with Silverwood Events and was centred around Jon’s new book, “If Only They Didn’t Speak English”.
John Gillmore (Gilly) from BBC Radio Lancashire sat down with Jon to discuss not just his book but the many adventures he has had throughout his 30 year career in journalism. Interestingly, Jon actually began his career with work experience at Radio Lancashire and he shared fond memories of his time here in Blackburn.
Jon spoke with humour and kept the audience enthralled with tales of interviewing Barack Obama, flying on Air Force One, having a lively exchange with Donald Trump and reporting from Iraq and Afghanistan. The event drew to a close with a live Q & A session then Deputy Head of School, Hebe, presented Jon with a thank you gift.
We would like to thank Jake and Elaine from Silverwood Events for organising the event, Gilly for a fantastic interview and, of course, Jon for giving up his time to travel to Westholme for such an entertaining evening.
