Indian Classical Dance

Rashmi’s Indian Classical Dance raises money for Orthopaedic Hospital in Bangalore.

Over the summer holidays, Rashmi Makaram of 9W graduated in Indian Classical Dance.  In order to do so she had prepared for five or six years twice a week and then three times a week for the last 18 months.

The Graduation itself involved a 2½ hour solo performance at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall in Bangalore where Rashmi performed eight set pieces accompanied by a live orchestra and soloist.  She did this in front of an auditorium full of people.  Instead of the usual gifts she would have received for this fantastic achievement, Rashmi asked that money be donated to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Bangalore.  She raised well over 60,000 Rupees (£800) and in grateful thanks was awarded a plaque by the hospital.

Subsequently Rashmi has won a place at the Centre for Advanced Training in Birmingham – one of only ten students in the UK.
