Our Infants enjoyed a fabulous assembly this morning to celebrate the birthday of author Roald Dahl.
They talked about some of the things people do on this day such as hold charity events for his ‘Marvellous Children’s’ Charity and watched a clip of some Oompa Loompa’s taking part in a skydive to raise money.
They talked about what an author does and then we looked at some of the stories that he had written for children …..The Twits, George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Witches, The BFG.
The children were interested to learn that the stories have been translated into many different languages across the world so that all children can enjoy them. We practised saying some of the words that Roald Dhal has used in his books such as Glorioumptious, sploshing. Swizzle, phizzing and learnt that in Roald Dahls stories the grown up characters hate children and in the stories the children often get their own back on the grown ups in very humorous ways.
They shared their own knowledge about the books they have read or the films they have watched which were based on his stories.
Mrs Dixon read an extract of Fantastic Mr Fox to the children and encouraged the children to borrow one of his stories from our library, the next time they visit with their class.
