Yesterday, our Year 11 students had a taste of their future with our ‘Into the Sixth Form’ introduction afternoon.
The day began with students attending school as normal, albeit dressed to impress in smart business attire, as is customary for our Sixth Form students. Following lessons, they were able to enjoy the comforts of the common room, socialising in the spacious environment afforded to senior students. They were also able to indulge in the food served in the cafeteria and the unique Sixth Form menu, which is tailored to the student’s appetites each year.
In the afternoon, the common room became a hub of activity as students were able to speak with A Level subject tutors about the details of their subjects in the Sixth Form. Many questions were asked as the Year 11’s seized the opportunity to explore the wide range of subjects our Sixth Form offers.
Next, there was a presentation for the students to understand more about the Sixth Form life. Firstly there was an introduction from Miss Smith who informed the students about the different paths they can take for their future.
This was followed by an informative presentation about life in the Sixth Form by Mr Oracz, the Head of Year. From small class sizes and personalised tuition, to enjoying the social freedoms and extra opportunities available, the students were truly given food for though regarding their future options.
“It was a pleasure to have the Year 11 students in the Sixth Form this week. Their natural transition to the Sixth Form environment has been very commendable, with them all enjoying the facilities and the opportunity to sample the social benefits available at Westholme. They asked mature questions about what life is like in our Sixth Form and sensibly discussed a number A Level subjects with staff. We look forward to letting them discuss further A Level options very soon, so that they can make an informed decision on their futures.” – Mr Oracz, Head of Sixth Form.
We then greeted a familiar face for the final section of the presentation, a former student, Poppy Ashworth. She told the students about her own experience of Westholme Sixth Form, providing them with a wonderful insight whilst answering any questions students had to ask.
Finally, Sixth Form teacher, Mrs Waldron, had this to say on the experience:
It was super to welcome Year 11 into the Sixth Form yesterday. They were well prepared with lots of questions about the subjects they might choose to study at A-Level and Sixth Form life in general. Wearing business attire and using the fabulous facilities gave them a real insight into what the Sixth has to offer. A great treat for them after working so hard last week on their exams!
Overall, the day was a great success for students, enabling them to gain a flavour of what is yet to come.
