Lovely Lake District

Year 2 enjoyed a very busy day at the Brockhole Centre, Windermere on Friday.

As part of their Geography topic the children have been studying their local area, Blackburn, and will now be able to compare this to the rural location of Brockhole.

The children explored the beautiful Lake District setting searching for Beatrix Potter characters that were positioned around the woodland paths and meadow areas.

The second activity of the morning was the much anticipated pond dipping! The children found a whole range of pond life from tadpoles, snails, water boatmen to dragonfly larvae.

After a much needed lunch the children had great fun on the newly refurbished play area and were very grateful to spend the afternoon cruising down Windermere on ‘The Princess of the Lake’. This was one of the actual boats that took part in Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration on the River Thames in 2012.

The children returned home tired but with some special memories of a great day out!
