Curriculum

At Prep, our curriculum extends far beyond a descriptive list of subjects. Intrinsic to our ethos is our commitment to equip our children with the vital skills and attitudes to strive to be the best they can be. Fostering a love of learning is absolutely fundamental, alongside the development of traditional values like respect, admirable behaviour and skilled communication.

From beginning their education at Westholme, children embark on an important journey of discovery. The Early Years Foundation Stage is the vehicle for our curriculum provision for children up to the age of five. By its very nature, the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum encourages hands-on learning, providing a holistic experience, through a blend of carefully planned next step, individualised learning and interest led continuous provision alongside adult directed education.

The structure of the curriculum through the year groups is planned with great care to ensure that there is a clear transition from Reception all the way through to Year 6. This enables us to provide tailored teaching to stretch and challenge every individual. Specialist teaching subjects such as in Music, French, LAMDA, PE and swimming complement our curriculum.

At each stage in the curriculum, we aim to create an environment in which children are nurtured and inspired to reach their potential.
