The Westholme journey starts in the main building in the Nursery which has been thoughtfully designed to offer a warm welcome. The under twos room, ‘Shining Stars’ and toddler room, ‘Rising Stars’ are bright and airy and are enclosed within a multi-surfaced garden.
The enlarged, purpose built space allows us to provide many new enrichment activities including gardening, Forest School Fridays and ‘wake up-shake up’ sessions. These new initiatives, along with our current programme of music and dance, will enrich our children’s learning further. The children are truly integrated into the whole school environment, with all the opportunities that brings.
From here the children move onto an adjoining building which houses the ‘Superstars’ in our Pre School unit, with an attractive suite of three connecting rooms. These lead out onto a covered, safe surface play space with large surrounding gardens, exclusively for children in Superstars.
Outside facilities, which are available to all children in Shining Stars, Rising Stars, Superstars, Reception and Key Stage 1 consist of an amphitheatre, interactive playground, Trim Trail and Discovery Dell which itself is a fantastic area for our children to explore, play, discover and learn; boasting a cycle track, storytelling circle, music wall, gravelled zones and playhouses. A barked surface with stepping stones, sensory flower beds, wild flower garden and brightly coloured artwork all of which enhance the Dell, provides all children with sensory zones to stimulate their imagination and play.
As children enter the final stage of the EYFS they move into a purpose built Reception bungalow which comprises of two large, bright classrooms, leading out onto a covered play space and attractive gardens. Here you will find the Trim Trail which was generously funded by the Westholme Association and is a well utilised play area.
Year 1 can be found in our recently refurbished bungalow, housing two classrooms which are set up to provide the children with opportunities for them to make a seamless transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum onto the National Curriculum.
The Year 2 classroom can be found upstairs in the main building along with our ICT suite, music and drama room. In addition to this you will also find a hall which is used for Physical Education, assemblies, lunches and performances. We also have the Learning Zone which houses a well stocked library and a suite of touch screen computers and a set of Ipads.
In addition to our own facilities, we have access to those across the whole school; the Croston Theatre, swimming pool, sports fields and sports hall at both Junior and Senior Schools. Children are transported safely between sites in our minibuses.
