OWs Lend Their Support to Year 13 Students at Mock Interview Event

We move closer and closer to the new year, when the Westholme Family will come together to celebrate 100 years of unrivalled holistic excellence, and this week we had a taste of what that celebratory atmosphere will feel like, as a large number of Old Westholmians returned to school as part of our Mock Interview event. Generously giving up their time, they embarked upon the Westholme corridors once more, to offer their expertise and guidance to our Year 13 students, as they prepare for their own aspirational journeys beyond their A Levels. The walk down a very ‘purple and green’ memory lane, ensured our alumni guests were all smiles as they both reminisced about their days at school and enjoyed seeing just how much the school continues to flourish on the eve of our centenary.

Upon arrival, our guests indulged in some typically Westholme refreshments, whilst also making polite social conversation with Year 13 students, who were eager to hear about their time at school and how they have used the skills they learned at Westholme to get them to where they are today.

Once the formal interviews began, students past and present sat down 1:1, with those who once sat anxiously on the receiving end, now expertly asking the questions and offering their sage advice. It was refreshing to hear just how blown away they were by our Year 13 students, with positive comments such as, “outstanding”, “one of the best interviews I’ve been part of” and “truly exceptional in every way”, demonstrating that continued virtue of exemplary individual development in all Westholme students.

After the interviews, guests enjoyed the Centenary exhibition, newly decorating the Croston Theatre Foyer, after which they took their seats in the auditorium and were given some customary musical performances, taking many back to their days gracing that iconic stage; with a lively performance from the musical “Six” and a beautifully sung rendition of “On My Own” from “Les Miserables”, our Drama students reminded every former student about just how diverse the opportunities are at Westholme, allowing every student to immerse themselves in their passion whilst we all come together to celebrate their success.

After a delectable lunch and many conversations about life at Westholme and the excitement for the various events taking place next year, Dr Robson thanked our Old Westholmian guests for returning to their roots to ensure that continued success for our INSPIRED Sixth Form students, before they were treated to a formal tour of the school. Witnessing former students from all eras being toured around school by Sixth Form students, finishing their route in our new Prep building, it was remarkable to see that “family” of generations all coming together; our youngest prep students enjoying their new classrooms, as our senior leaders introduce Old Westholmians to those just beginning their Westholme journey. It certainly made me feel incredibly proud to be part of the heritage of the school and to see the support, success and outstanding quality that defines the last 100 years of the school and will continue to do so in the next 100. A huge thank you to all of our Old Westholmians and we look forward to seeing you all at the centenary events in 2023.
