Year 6 enjoy a trip back in time
On Friday 25th November, Year 6 enjoyed a fascinating Victorian day at Quarry Bank Mill.
They dressed as mill workers and learnt how difficult life was for the children who were apprentices in the mill during the Victorian era. They discovered that life in the schoolroom of the Apprentice House was very different to that of their own classrooms and sharing a bed in the dormitory didn’t appeal to many. They were guided round the cotton mill and learnt about the jobs that the child workers had to do.
In addition, they walked to Styal village to see where most of the mill workers lived if they weren’t apprentices. Overall, the day was a step back in time to a different world.
