Quarry Bank Mill

Year 6 girls step back in time

Year 6 spent a day at Quarry Bank Mill in Styal, Cheshire, experiencing what life would have been like for young apprentices at the mill in Victorian times. They all made a great effort to look the part and were complimented for both their super behaviour and for their keenness to participate and ask interesting questions.

During the day, each class took part in a textiles workshop which involved carding, spinning and weaving thread, and which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The girls also had a guided tour of the mill, watching spinning and weaving machines in action, and they visited the Apprentice House to find out how young people lived and spent their time when not working in the mill.

It was a great day but all of the girls agreed that they were relieved to have been born in the 21st century!
