Our Junior Cross Country Runners in Action
Yesterday evening, Westholme Juniors were part of a number of select schools to represent Blackburn in the East Lancashire Schools’ Cross-Country event taking part at Marl Pits, Rossendale. Children who, throughout the year, were successful in finishing in the top 25 runners at the Blackburn Primary Schools’ event were chosen to be part of a team consisting of the top runners in the area.
What looked to be perfect Cross Country conditions soon turned into a wash out as the heavens opened minutes before the girls set off, sure enough, coming to a halt halfway through the race when the boys were running.
After splashing through the flooded fields and scrambling up a tricky hill, the end of the 2km course was in sight with a lap of the local running track to complete.
With the final results relating to each area’s overall position not yet finalised, the Westholme children must be commended for, firstly, being selected to be part of the team, and secondly, on a wonderful performance against a very competitive field.
The school representatives were:
Girls: Charlotte Backhouse, Natasha Coombes, Kate Deegan, Eve Downham, Isabelle Haslam, Eva Knowles and Ayesha Vose
Boys: Jonathan Brindle
Fantastic work, everyone.
