School League Tables

Westholme pleased with creditable position in this year’s League Tables

Principal, staff and Governors are all pleased with our creditable position in this year’s League Tables.

League tables contextualise but they do not tell the full story of individual triumphs and personal successes. Principal, Mrs Horner commented, “As with all schools, very often, the tables only tell part of the story. They do provide a useful insight but not a full picture. We always recommend looking beyond the tables by visiting schools and talking to students, staff and parents when making judgements”.

We were delighted that over 86% of students gained places at their first or second choice of University, with 34% of these having secured places at one of the highly sought after Russell Group Universities. Mrs Horner said, “What matters is that we have equipped our students, not only with excellent results but essentially, lifelong skills and attributes for fulfilling careers. We offer students the traditional A level route, focussing on academic subjects but we also welcome those who want an all round approach to learning. These students leave Westholme having gained the attributes tailored to their specific needs. This is reflected in our very high A level points per student at 926, which equates to more than 3 A* grades”. She went on to say, “Students leaving us after completing their A levels journey to diverse locations; from undergraduate places at Oxford and St Andrews to an exclusive offer to study fashion in Paris!”

At our recent Universities Fair, we welcomed over 46 universities to Westholme in order for students to explore the wide variety of opportunities available to them. From Cambridge and Glasgow to Projects Abroad and the London School of Economics and Political Science, students were able to discuss different offers to enable them to make confident and informed decisions about their life after Westholme. We have strong links with a huge collection of universities which is extremely important for our A level students.

Westholme also performed well in the GCSE standings, being the top performer against other Independent Schools in the area. At this level, in 2014, we had an impressive 100% A* – C pass rate. As our GCSE students make the transition into Sixth Form, they can be confident in the knowledge that the high standards of teaching and learning will stay with them as they embark on their journey of further education at Westholme. Mrs Horner said, “Our GCSE standing speaks for itself. Our excellent offering gives students the best possible opportunities available to them. I am delighted with the performance of our Year 11s. It is certainly reassuring to know that we continue to ensure our students fulfil their potential”.
