Year 11 girls experience a day in the life of a Sixth Former
Our lively Year 11 group entered the world of Sixth Form today. The day took the shape of a taster session, in preparation for the next stage of their education. The girls were keen to try out lessons in Sixth Form-only subjects such as Classics, Business Studies and Psychology, combined with hearing about more familiar subjects yet from a more demanding A Level angle. The atmosphere was informal as they were able to ask questions of the teachers and of the current Sixth Form girls, rubbing shoulders with them as they participated in lessons together.
At lunchtime a buffet was provided by the catering team and was much enjoyed, as the pupils relaxed on the infamous Sixth Form sofas and chilled out with music and chat. Mrs Waldron, Head of Sixth Form, said, “It’s been another great Taster Day for the Year 11 students. Many of them just do not realise quite how different life will be in the Sixth Form, and how much more freedom there is.
Today is a great way of gaining an insight into Westholme Sixth Form life, hearing about new subject choices and seeing firsthand the excellent rapport between Sixth Form pupils and staff. I know the girls have really enjoyed it, and we have enjoyed getting to know them too. It’s the start of an exciting new journey!”
