Solar Powered Racers

Engineering Club’s latest challenge

The latest project for Westholme’s young engineers was to build a solar powered race car. The students used solar panels to charge up large capacitors which then provided the energy for the electric motors.

The girls had to build the cars as light as possible to increase top speed. They also had to include systems to ensure that they travelled in a straight line. Everyone had great fun with the task, but in the end the white car was by far the fastest and may now be put forward for next year’s Toyota Technology Challenge.
