World War II is brought to life for Y6 pupils
The History Man visited Year 6 pupils today to talk to them about World War II, so enabling them to have a better understanding of the events of the past, and taking them into a world beyond the classroom and their text books.
Rather than simply telling the children about the events, The History Man brings them to life by engaging the children in interactive roll play, asking them to wear the hats and helmets of the various armies and getting them to re-enact the movement of troops as one country invaded another; all cleverly mapped out in a world of gym mats on the carpet.
During the workshops the children excitedly joined in the game and were intrigued by the facts and information they heard. Afterwards, they asked The History Man questions and related some of their own stories about past generations of family who were themselves involved in one way or another in World War II.
Thank you to Mr Worrell for such an interesting visit and for bringing history to life in a way which will hopefully inspire our students to research their own family histories in the coming weeks.
