Religion – is it the problem or the solution?
Last night Sixth Form EPR students attended a thought provoking debate at Blackburn Cathedral entitled:
‘Religion – is it the problem or the solution?’
The panel of speakers who attempted to address this topical and challenging question included Lancaster University lecturers, local Muslim believers and a representative from the Manchester Humanist Society. They raised many interesting points which highlighted why the misinterpretation of religion and diverse approaches to it, can often lead to it being viewed as a problem in society.
Students valued the opportunity to engage with various figures from the local community and the Q&A session, which followed the debate, enabled audience participation which broadened the discussion.
After the lecture students went for a meal at ‘Chiquito’ restaurant in Blackburn and this enabled them to discuss their thoughts on the debate, whilst enjoying some tasty Mexican food.
