A report for the U11 rugby team at the Rossall tournament yesterday from Mr Barnett.
An exceedingly wet day throughout! Credit to the lads for keeping their heads up and spirits high despite being soaked to the skin from the onset.
In our pool we played Altrincham Prep, Rossall and Buchan. We lost the first two matches, still finding our feet and learning about defensive lines and how we needed everyone to make their tackles and not shy away from the physical contact.
After the second game, where we had been well beaten, spirits were low. Would the boys respond in the final pool match? Happily, I can report that they did! What followed was a super performance all round. Everyone made their tackles and it was a close game, with Harry Richmond scoring an excellent try. We lost but the boys came bounding off the field, happy that they had performed well as a team. No shame in losing if we had all done as well as we could.
As the rain continued to batter us, we awaited the result of the other pool to see who we would play in the next round. Luckily there was plenty of hot chocolate to keep us warm as we huddled in the tent!
In the next round we played Liverpool College. I was glad to see that we were learning as a team. Sadly they proved too strong for us and we lost. We were delighted when Harry Richmond was awarded our player of the tournament medal.
