Westholme’s U16 netballers reach National Netball Finals in Brighton on 20th March.
The U16 National Schools Netball Finalists –
A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!
On Saturday 30th January, Westholme’s U16 netball team travelled to Stanley Park, Blackpool, to represent Lancashire in the North West Regional Finals of the National Schools Netball competition.
The top two schools from Cheshire, Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and Lancashire were represented, with the tournament played in two groups with the winner and runner up from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The team played very well and qualified for the semi finals as runners-up of the group. Here they played Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School. It was a very close game with Westholme building up a four goal lead before one of Bacup & Rawtenstall’s players collapsed on court with a medical problem. There was less than a minute of play, so Bacup forfeited the game as it was unlikely that they would have won in the remaining time.
In the final Westholme played Loreto School again, who were very strong, fast and tall! Westholme tried hard but unfortunately still lost the match by 7 goals to 9. However the result of this match didn’t really matter as both finalists qualified for the National Finals where the top ten U16 Netball teams in the country will be competing. These finals are being held on Saturday 20th March in Brighton.
Well done to the team – especially as most girls are still a year young for this competition!
