U20 Rugby World Cup

Senior students travel to the AJ Bell Stadium

Sport has historically played an important role in society, be it in the form of competitive sport, physical activity or play. This year we welcome The UEFA European Championships, U20 Rugby World Cup, 6 Nations Rugby and the Olympic Games. With France hosting the Euros, it is England’s turn to host the U20’s Rugby World Cup and with England’s senior side confidently winning the 6 Nations, expectations are high for our U20s side.

Here at Westholme, we recognise and value the power of sport and wanted to our students to see first-hand how sport can bring people, families, neighbours, and the nation together. So 23 of our students travelled to the AJ Bell stadium to watch New Zealand vs Wales and England vs Australia in the U20’s Rugby World Cup.

Our students were very excited at the thought of seeing a live rugby match, supporting our nation and seeing the New Zealand Haka! The group thoroughly enjoyed the game, the atmosphere and with England winning their match the students certainly came away with a renewed confidence that England are not only going to win the European Finals, but the Rugby World Cup too!

We now eagerly await the start of the football and rugby season for our students in September, but for now we are focused on cricket, tennis and athletics!
